Full paper submission guidelines

1. Overall orientation of the paper

  • IAPS 2017 Symposium participants are asked to write a full paper based on their abstract. The paper should include innovative ideas on a specific research project or initiative, research procedures and results. Authors should address the added value of explicitly relating scientific knowledge about climate change to pro-environmental behaviour and city planning which you feel could be integrated in your paper. What are the lessons learned that could be of interest to an international audience? 2. Publication Options

  • The IAPS 2017 Scientific Committee is exploring several publication options. More details on the specific guidelines for each of these publications will be uploaded soon.However, as a general guideline, papers should be up to 5000 words (including the abstract and references), written in Times Roman 12, single-spaced. The Book will be following the British spelling reference, consistent with the Oxford English Dictionary. Authors are asked to follow the Harvard Reference System, which uses a basic author-date method of referencing. Other styles may be acceptable as long as the paper shows consistency.

    Authors whose paper is selected for publication are invited to present their paper orally at the Symposium. The deadline for authors to register for the symposium and proceed with payment is 30 April 2017 (early bird), 30 July 2017 (final deadline).

3. Copyrights ownership

  • Submitting a paper for publication in the IAPS 2017 Symposium proceedings does mean that authors would transfer the copyright to the conference. In the case of IAPS 2017, we would not formally request this copyright transfer in a signed document, but it would occur implicitly. Our stated policy is to automatically grant permission to re-use the material in a journal upon receipt of a written request. The IAPS 2017 scientific committee kindly request for authors to acknowledge that their paper was first presented at the IAPS 2017 symposium.

4. Overall Editorial Guidelines for papers

  • Language

    British English will be used, authors are asked to be consistent within their papers. Please check for consistent spelling of names, terms, and abbreviations, including in tables and figure captions. Authors, which English is not their native language, are strongly suggested for their paper to be checked by a professional editing service before submission.

    Abstract

    Begin each chapter with an abstract that summarizes the content of the paper. Abstract should be maximum 200 words. Please don’t include reference citations or undefined abbreviations in the abstract, since abstracts are often read independently of the actual paper and without access to the reference list.

    Headings and Heading Numbering

    Heading levels should be clearly identified and each level should be uniquely and consistently formatted and/or numbered. Use the decimal system of numbering if your headings are numbered. Authors are asked to be consistent with the heading level. No skipping please.

    Terminology, Units and Abbreviations

    Technical terms and abbreviations should be defined the first time they appear in the text. Please use internationally accepted signs and symbols for units, so-called SI units. Numerals should follow the British method of decimal points to indicate decimals and commas to separate thousands.

    Style and text formatting

    Authors are asked to write in written in Times Roman 12, single-spaced. Italics should be used for emphasized words or phrases in the text, but do not format entireparagraphs in italics. The use of italics should be limited for e.g. species and names, mathematical/physical variables. Bold formatting should only be used for run-in headings

    Tables

    Authors are asked to give each table a caption and to add a reference citation to the table source at the end of the caption, if necessary. Authors should number tables consecutively using the chapter number (e.g. Table 1.1 for the first table in Chap. 1) and ensure that all tables are cited in the text in sequential order. Do not write “the following table”. Simple, one-column lists should not be treated as tables.

    Figures and Illustration

    Authors should number the figures section-wise using the adequate number (e.g., Fig. 1.1 for the first figure in the paper). Authors should also ensure that all figures are cited in the text in sequential order. Do not write “the following figure”. Only 3 figures/ illustrations per paper is allowed. Graphics and diagrams should be saved as EPS files with the fonts embedded. Microsoft Office files (Excel or PowerPoint) can be submitted in the original format (xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx). Scanned graphics in TIFF format should have a minimum resolution of 1200 dpi. Photos or drawings with fine shading should be saved as TIFF with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

    Figures should include a concise caption, describing accurately what the figure depicts. Authors should include the captions at the end of the text file, not in the figure file. If a figure is reproduced from a previous publication, include the source as the last item in the caption.

    References

    Authors should cite references in the text with author name/s and year of publication in parentheses (“Harvard system”):

    • Example one author: (Miller 1991) or Miller (1991)
    • Example two authors: (Miller and Smith 1994) or Miller and Smith (1994)
    • Example three authors or more: (Miller et al. 1995) or Miller et al. (1995)

    Authors should include a reference list at the end of their paper. Authors are asked to include all works that are cited in the text and that have been published (including on the Internet) or accepted for publication. Personal communications and unpublished works should only be mentioned in the text. Do not use footnotes as a substitute for a reference list. Entries in the list must be listed alphabetically. The rules for alphabetization are: First, all works by the author alone, ordered chronologically by year of publication. Next, all works by the author with a coauthor, ordered alphabetically by coauthor. Finally, all works by the author with several coauthors, ordered chronologically by year of publication.
